Harpreet K., Payroll Assistant, is the recipient of the 2022-2023 Award for Innovation– one of the highest honours within Circle of Care’s employee recognition program, Champions of Care.

Embracing Growth and Teamwork

Meet Harpreet, Circle of Care’s passionate Payroll Assistant since 2022. Her love of numbers and unwavering commitment to excellence made her an invaluable asset to the Payroll team.

“I love dealing with numbers that is why I choose to work in the payroll department,” says Harpeet.

Harpreet moved to Canada in 2020 and pursued her dream of working in payroll by dedicating herself to learning about her field and obtained her Payroll Compliance Certification from the National Payroll Institute.

When Harpreet first came into Circle of Care, she was new to our employee system software Dayforce.

“Dayforce was essential for me to learn as 90% of the work I do is done on that platform,” recalls Harpreet

With the help of her team and their collaborative efforts, Harpreet was able to become an expert on the system and thrive in her role as the Payroll Assistant.

“Teamwork is so important for me. I always consult my team if I have any questions while working and my team is always ready to help,” says Harpreet

Breaking Barriers, Saving Thousands

In 2022, as the organization was preparing T2200 forms (travel reimbursement and expense forms) for both union and non-union employees, Harpreet had an extraordinary idea that revolutionized and simplified the process.

Traditionally, this process had been outsourced to an external agency, Ceridian Dayforce, incurring substantial expenses. However, thinking outside the box, she harnessed the power of technology and turned to Microsoft Word’s mail merge function, seamlessly combining data from Dayforce and the T2200 form from the Canada Revenue Agency website.

The result was astounding. Harpreet singlehandedly automated the creation of T2200 forms for all employees, eliminating the need for outsourcing and saving significant time and resources.

The impact of Harpreet’s creativity did not go unnoticed. Her Supervisor, Shelina expressed her gratitude, acknowledging Harpeet’s out-of-the-box thinking and dedication to making a real difference.

“Hapreet’s ability to be agile and responsive to requests is appreciated. Especially during the time when we are short staffed,” says her manager Shelina.

Celebrated for Innovation

In June 2023, Harpeet was presented the Award for Innovation. This award is given to a person who is driven to find better solutions in everything they do. Through discovery, creativity and courage they challenge conventional thinking to gain knowledge and understanding that results in new approaches to care. Harpreet was nominated multiple times for her excellent organizational and innovative skills.

“I really feel excited that my efforts have been recognized and appreciated,” says Harpeet

Harpret’s story at Circle of Care exemplifies the power of innovation in the workplace. It serves as a reminder that every individual, regardless of their role or department, has the potential to make a significant impact through creative problem-solving.
