Nisha Chopra is a clerical volunteer with Circle of Care.

1) What inspired you to begin volunteering for Circle of Care?

My passion lies in helping others. Volunteering gives me the opportunity to contribute to an organization like Circle of Care, helping people live a better life in their own homes. I would like to think that my contribution, in some small way, will help to make our community a better place to live in.

2) Is there a specific moment you recall while volunteering that made you feel like you made a real difference?

Even though I am not directly involved in working with our clients, by helping out in the office through record-keeping, I know that it makes a difference for keeping accurate information that is easily accessible for staff.

3) Has volunteering changed your outlook in any way?

Working with wonderful people in at Circle of Care, who are working to help others, is in and of itself a reward. I am gaining new knowledge and experiences every day.

4) What makes a good volunteer?

To help someone you have to be a kind, compassionate and generous person. You have to be true to yourself and choose a cause you are passionate about because your actions are going to impact the lives of others who are counting on you for support.

5) What advice would you give to someone who is considering a volunteer position?

You have to be sure that this is what you want to do. When you are trying to help someone else, you have to put their needs ahead of yours. What you think is best, may not be what the client is looking for.

6) What are your interests outside of volunteering?

Travelling, drawing, helping others, going for walks, and hanging out with friends.

7) Do you have any words to live by?

“The secret of being happy is accepting where you are in life and making the most out of every day.”

8) What is the most recent book you read?

The Sage’s Tao Te Ching by William Martin.

9) Where is “home”?

Home is where your heart is.

10) Chocolate or Vanilla?
