Uliana S. is the recipient of the 2019-2020 Award for Person-Centred Care – one of the highest honours in Circle of Care’s employee recognition program, Champions of Care.

Connecting Care to Those to Who Need It

Uliana S. has always focused her career on roles that allow her to provide guidance and support to those in need. “My passion has always been to help others,” she says.

As a member of the Information and Referral team, Uliana is one of the first points of contact for callers seeking information about Circle of Care’s programs and services.  Uliana listens to the caller’s needs, asks questions to determine eligibility and refers them to internal programs and services where applicable. If they’re not eligible for Circle of Care services, whether because of age, geography or some other restriction, she provides them with information about other providers and outside supports they can access.

“A call is never just a call,” says Uliana. “My team and I are providing counseling, emotional support, education, system navigation, resource information, and also addressing urgent crises and suicidal calls.”

An outpouring of gratitude

By the time most callers finally reach out for help or guidance, they are desperate and at their wits end. For many, they’re looking for solutions that will allow them or  loved ones to continue to live at home.

“Uliana was really amazing with my mother,” said the daughter of one of our clients. “She’s clearly experienced in working with the elderly! She was very clear and easy to understand. And she’s patient and does a great job!”

Oftentimes, Uliana will start off on a phone call where the caller has interest in one particular program, and by asking questions and learning more about the caller, she is able to provide additional supports and suggestions for help.

“I wish that everyone who worked in the service industry provided such high quality service to their clients,” said one of the callers. “Uliana was nice, polite, friendly and most importantly she was able to answer all of my questions. Thank you!”

“It’s so gratifying to know that I am continually making a difference in the lives of the people that I speak with,” says Uliana.

Celebrated for her person-centred care

In June 2020, Uliana was honoured with the Champions of Care Award for Person-Centred Care. This award is presented to an employee who provides exceptional care and service in a safe and compassionate environment, and approaches each individual as a whole person with unique needs.

“I think this a wonderful program that showcases all the great work that employees at Circle of Care do,” says Uliana. “It allows for the staff to be highlighted for a job well done and celebrates their achievements!”
