Beverley N., a Personal Support Worker, is the recipient of the 2022-2023 Award for Equity – one of the highest honours within Circle of Care’s employee recognition program, Champions of Care.

A Mother’s Love and Dedication

Motivated by the loss of her son, who had lived with cerebral palsy, Beverley embarked on the journey to become a Personal Support Worker (PSW). With a deep desire to honour her son’s memory and fueled by her profound empathy, she set out to pursue a meaningful career assisting who, required compassionate care and support. With this goal in mind, she returned to school and enrolled in the PSW training program.

“If it wasn’t for my son, who led me to this profession, I would have probably pursued a different career,” says Beverley.

Leaving a Positive Impact

For the last 14 years, Beverley has poured her heart and soul into her work as a PSW, treating each client with the same compassion, dedication, and dignity as she had showed her own son.

As a PSW, she supports older adults with their everyday tasks such as assisting with personal hygiene, grooming, providing household management, socialization, and emotional support.

“I love what I do,” says Beverley. “My days are like snowflakes, with no two being the same. But, my favourite part of the job is when I finish with a client and their family are so grateful for my help. This makes me truly feel like I am helping my community.”

Her colleagues often acknowledge her compassion and the authentic connections she establishes with those under her care.

“I have had the pleasure of observing Beverley’s interactions with her clients, and it is evident that she has a deep understanding of their needs and is able to provide them with the support and encouragement they need to navigate the challenges they face,” says Muna S, Client Service Supervisor “Her ability to connect with her clients on a personal level is truly remarkable, as she clearly has a genuine interest in their well-being.”.
