Special Guest: Carole Paul, Trombonist

Join us for a special event featuring Trombonist Carole Paul!

“At nine years old, I heard the trombone and that was all I wanted. I received a trombone and I practiced and drove my parents and neighbors nuts. I played in bands and orchestras. At thirteen, I was asked to join the Cleveland Women’s Symphony. I started private studies at the Baldwin Wallace Music Conservatory, which lead to College scholarships. In October 1962, we moved to Toronto from the United States. I started playing with the Etobicoke Philharmonic. I was then asked to join the Navy Band at HMCS York. I was the second woman to enter that band. Other bands began to book me for jobs because of my sight-reading, etc.

During this time, my Jewish religion (by choice) kept me busy. Holy Blossom had a terrific adult education program and I became a member of the First Adult Bar and Bat Mitzvah class. Reading from the Torah was a thrill that could not be equaled. Rabbi Plaut was always after me to leave the business world and go full-time with music. I was not that confident, but eventually, I did continue with music. I auditioned for the TSO and did a little substitute work. Somehow I played in pit orchestras, symphony, etc. I decided to go Orthodox. Wow! That was work. In December of 2015, I became Bracha and have been a member of the Village Shul ever since and still continue to study Torah.” – Carole Paul

We are honoured to have her play for us during this event!
