Falls Prevention & Exercise Classes
The Group Exercise and Fall Prevention program was designed to help promote an active healthy lifestyle amongst its clients and to reduce the risk of falls for adults over the age of 65. The classes are funded by the Central Local Health Integration Network (CLHIN) and are offered to clients in the North York area, free of cost.
Both the group exercise and fall prevention classes run 48 weeks throughout the year, Monday to Friday from 9:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. The program does not run on weekends or statutory holidays.
The goals of the Group Exercise and Fall Prevention programs are as follows:
1. To reduce falls and falls related complications in older adults
2. To identify and promote evidence based activities and programming
3. To increase mobility and function in older adults
4. To help older adults maintain a regular healthy lifestyle
Group Exercise Classes
Circle of Care facilitates 110 different group exercise classes in the Toronto and North York areas each year. All group exercise classes are twice a week for 1 hour each session.
Fall Prevention Classes
Circle of Care completes 46 fall prevention programs in the Toronto and North York areas each year. Each fall prevention program is made up of 12 weeks of classes with two 1 hour sessions per week. The program begins with an initial assessment during week 1, done by the Occupational Therapist, and ends with a final assessment during week 12. Each week clients are presented with education and exercise designed to prevent falls.
